A Special Flag Day Ceremony Was Held June 14, 2007

Northampton Township held a special Flag Day Ceremony at the Municipal park on June 14th.  More than 200 residents attended and heard remarks by Supervisor Chairman and Detachment Paymaster Pete Palestina and invited guest speakers.  The keynote speaker was retired Marine Corps Major General Ronald K. Nelson who focused on the war in Iraq, terrorism, patriotism and what the flag truly  means to the American people.  State Representative Scott Petri talked about the flag as did County Commissioners Charlie Martin and James Cawley who were very complimentary in their remarks about the event put together by the Supervisors.  The Marine Corps League Patriot Detachment #1230 Richboro provided the Color Guard and the National Anthem, as well as God Bless America and You’re a Grand Old Flag was sung by Arielle Smith.  Scout Tom Long led all in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Various Scouts from Northampton troops coordinated by Scoutmaster Aaron Sarafinas provided the flag disposal burning as well as telling the story behind the proper protocol for disposal of the flag as the Scouts cut the ceremonial flag.
